Biology - Disease and Viruses Think Tank Topics

As a nation, we are very concerned about potential disruptions to our society, and natural disasters which could destroy our civilization. However, it often seems we are looking in the wrong direction, and we are looking for great big things which might hurt as such is hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, and floods. In fact, we are so worried that we spend hundreds of billions of dollars on our military in case we are attacked by some other large nation.

Right now that would be suicide, because our military is so strong if any nation were to attack the United States, they would be completely obliterated and destroyed within probably 72 hours. So I don't think we really have to worry about that, at least not in this particular decade, although we better watch ourselves as China grows into a super power.

One thing we don't spend enough time thinking about is the really small threats which could wipe us out, things like; diseases and viruses. Not long ago, we were having this discussion at our think tank, which operates online. And I started the argument, actually it started as a discussion and then it got into an argument with his statement

We have a problem with do-it-yourself biologists, bio-fuel enzymes in the wild, nitrate run-off, poor BMPs in agriculture, industrial waste, slow actions of CDC, bio-terrorists, arguments on vaccine use, bacteria and viruses resistant to anti-biotics, Ug99 wheat fungus, mosquito populations, and there could be more serious issues with GMOs in the future perhaps. We should be worried about the floods and disease, and the latest NDM-1 bacteria which has shown itself in India and Pakistan.

We should be totally serious about the hospitals, Gyms, and schools where the MRSA is causing problems, and an estimated 400,000 deaths per year, which is over 10 times the number of automobile deaths in our nation even in the peak years - and despite what anybody says the Flu challenges and potential for Pandemics are real. "What are your thoughts?" I then said.

It was amazing after I made this statement, or something similar to this, as I don't remember the exact words, how the entire group came alive everyone pushing their opinion to the forefront, either in denial of my statements, or applauding the serious nature of these issues. Sure, it's not good to chastise the CDC, or our government for their ineffectualness on these topics, but if we don't address this we are going to be sorry one day. Indeed it is my sincere hope you will please consider all this.
